Uncut Multicoloured Norman Slab before processing

Norman Slabs

On the left is an uncut multispot Norman slab, expertly blown in our glass studio and thoughtfully finished in our workshop, resulting in four distinct panes of glass.

Norman slabs represent a deeply traditional form of stained glass, frequently found adorning cathedrals and churches.

Characterized by a central lens, they are celebrated for their timeless craftsmanship and luminous beauty, embodying a centuries-old tradition of exquisite artistry in glassmaking.

Our Norman Slab sizes:

Our Glass Making Skills…

Mouthblown Stained Flat Glass

If you're looking for exquisite mouthblown stained glass look no further. We are UK’s only remaining traditional manufacturer of flat glass, with decades of experience including handcrafting stained glass panes for Buckingham Palace.

We have a wide range of our mouthblown flat glass available to purchase. Whilst we aren’t currently producing flat glass since our relocation from Alverchurch, Birmingham to Witney, Oxfordshire we will consider restarting production if the demand is high enough to restart once our current stocks have sold through.

We have sheets of glass with an average size of 0.33m² consisting of clear and reamy whites, streaky whites, streaky and flashed colours. The colour range includes amber, blue, green, pink, ruby, opal, white, aubergine, violet plus others in single colour or combinations.

The glass we melt is from raw materials in pelletised batch form which we import from Sweden. The expansion coefficient of this base glass is 9.9 plus or minus 0.2 but we know that in practice it is suitable for a large range of different manufactures colours with expansion coefficients of 9.5 upward.

All our own colours are, to date, derived from additives to the base glass. Due to the density of the colour we are using our range has, we believe, a much thinner coating than many other of the other available products currently on the market.

Our range is flashed, clear or streaky. Our large and varying range includes amber/green, amber/blue, ruby/green, ruby/opal, violet, gold/pink, multi colour plus many more.

Norman Slab and Roundels

Our glass studio produces Norman Slabs and Roundels in a range of colours and sizes. Get in touch with any requests you may have, we would love to hear from you.

Pressed Glass

We have recently taken on a press from another UK glass manufacturer that specialised in pressed glass, until it recently closed. Our team were lucky enough to learn the process whilst the factory was still open and look forward to maintaining continuous supply for their customers as well as offering pressed glass to new customers.

Our presswork services cater to a wide array of customers, from vintage car light covers to pavement lenses.

Glasma's UK Distributor for pelletised batch

We have a very long relationship with Glasma in Sweden and has been the exclusive importer and distributor of their products in the UK for many years. We believe their product is highly superior and want to share it with glass producers in the UK.

We pride ourselves on offering a great service to our customers, we hold stock of the key lines which can be dispatched within 1-2 working days. The lead time for non-stocked lines can be quoted at the time of enquiry.

Bespoke Glass Blowing

Please contact us for bespoke glass blowing requests. We typically accept orders of 30-50 pieces or more, so please keep this in mind to avoid any disappointment.

Get to know us

English Antique Glass has a rich history that spans from its origins in Alvechurch, Birmingham to its current home in Witney, Oxfordshire, where it relocated in late 2022 due to the redevelopment of its original factory location. Now nestled within the premises of our sister company, Original BTC, which bought of English Antique Glass in 2011, our glassmaking factory is thriving in its new setting as we look to grow the company.

Our experience has been focused to making flat stained glass, Norman slabs, roundels, bullions and other blown glass on request. More recently we have expanded our glass making techniques to include making pressed glass.
